About Us

Founded in 2000, we are one of the largest booksellers in the UK - shipping new, used and rare books from our warehouse in Somerset to customers all over the world every day.

You might even have bought books from us before on sites such as Amazon, AbeBooks, eBay, and Biblio. We also sell books in bulk to interior design studios, film/TV production companies, museums and more via our Books By The Yard service.

With a large variety of books old and new making up our stock, you can visit us to browse our vast bookshelves in person. We’re one of the only book warehouses in the country to have a bookshop customers can visit year round to browse- and enjoy the perks of our wonderful on-site cafe.

Our large team is dedicated to providing excellent order handling and customer service. We are passionate about all things books - and hope you enjoy your experience with us, whether in real life or online!

Who We Are

We are a small, independent business with big ideas. In January 2013 we started to transform and rebuild Bookbarn - giving the old business a transformation with global reach.

We have a dedicated, enthusiastic and close-knit team from all walks life who are passionate about books and always happy to help customers. Bookbarn has been shipping fantastic books at great prices to book lovers all over the world since the year 2000.

Bookbarn recycles responsibly

Our warehouse team is here to sort through every book that comes through our doors. We have strict criteria to make sure that everything that can be used is, whether it is sold online, in our shop or in our Books By The Yard department, which is the perfect home for even the most distressed leather bound books.

And even when a book isn’t suitable for sale, we find as many ways as we can to make sure it is used. You can see this all over the building  in many of our decorations (and you may even spot our unique tree at Christmas!)

We also supply materials to local businesses to recycle books into something new; including cards, bags and gifts that you can see for sale in our shop. You may have even noticed that many of our cards from local businesses now no longer have plastic wrapping, at our request, to cut down on as much unnecessary waste as possible.

The final port of call for a book if it is completely unusable is our book recycling bins, and we ensure that no book that ends up there goes to landfill. Everything is ethically disposed of and is either pulped or recycled.

Come and see for yourself...

We are not just a barn full of books; though our stacks are pretty awe inspiring! We have a pretty(ish) face too! You can visit our bricks and mortar shop in the heart of Somerset seven days a week. We are located just 30 mins from the cities of Bristol, Bath and Wells.

Our Café serves delicious home made food, sourced locally.

Darwin Rare Books is a handpicked selection of rare and collectable, old, hard to find or just fascinating and beautiful books out on display and waiting for you.

We are dog, child and wheelchair friendly too with plenty of free parking space.

More than books

We share our space with Oriental Rugs of Bath who present the highest quality oriental handmade rugs and accessories that are beautifully displayed in their shop upstairs. We also have an exquisite selection of framed prints by the renowned English wood engraver and author Gwen Raverat.
