Of course, we stock antique, rare, historical and vintage books on many different subjects, not just Charles Darwin, but we named this atmospheric room, full of gilt-spined and leather bound rarities, after the great man himself, as a mark of recognition and respect for this remarkable human being, his work and his books.
So firstly, in honour of our namesake, here are some of his books that we currently have in stock;
The Origin of the Species by Means of Natural Selection. Published by D Appleton and Company in 1875, and on sale for £397.50
The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animal. Leather bound and published by John Murray in 1892 currently selling for £337.50. We also have a more modern edition of this, with green cloth boards published by William Pickering in 1989 for £21.00
On the Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs; also Geological Observations on the Volcanic Islands and Parts of South America. Published by Ward Lock and Co in 1890, and on sale for £44.80.
On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. Published by Ward, Lock and Company in 1901, and selling for £42.50.
The Variation of Plants and Animals Under Domestication. Published by John Murray in 1905 and priced at £30.80.
We also have Voyage of HMS Beagle. Published by The Amalgamated Press in 1905 and this is on sale for just £6.50...so something to suit all pockets, including several other Charles Darwin titles available online. If, however, you want a rare or vintage book on another subject, do read some of the featured Darwin posts (if you haven’t already done so), to get a sense of just how vast and varied is our stock.
