About us

What we do

We are all about books! We love, live, think and breath books. Actually we breath books a little too often (hundreds of thousands of books can be a little bit dusty at times).

We catalogue thousands of books online every week so we can sell them on many marketplaces around the world including this website. We ship thousands of books every week to customers in the UK and all around the globe. And we pay authors for these sales!

You might have bought books from us before on marketplaces such as Amazon, Abebooks, eBay, Alibris, Barnes & Noble, Rakuten, Sapna and others.

Who are Bookbarn International?

We are a small, independent business with big ideas. Under new owners we rebranded the business in January 2013.

We have a small, dedicated, enthusiastic and close-knit team from all walks life with over 100 years in bookselling experience and who are always ready to help. Thanks to them we have been able to rebuild the business and all of our software from the ground up giving the business a complete and much needed overhaul.

Bookbarn has been shipping fantastic books at great prices to book lovers all over the world since the year 2000.

Where do our books come from?

You! We sell books on your behalf. You are book collectors, dealers, schools, libraries, charities, museums, shops, friends, relatives, grandmas, grandpas, professors, doctors, teachers, students and possibly even your next door neighbour.

We pay you a generous percentage of the net value your books achieve when sold through our vendor service. This can be especially useful for schools, libraries, charities and of course students! Find out more about how you become a vendor yourself. If your books are not suitable for selling through a vendor service we also accept donations.

Bookbarn International recycles responsibly

We find loving homes for as many second hand books as possible. We hate to see books go to waste and never to a landfill! Our £1 shop is a fantastic way to save books that are no longer suitable to be kept in our busy warehouse for sale online but are easy bargains for happy shoppers. Only a tiny percent of the books are disposed of even then they are always recycled. They may end up as packing material or even toilet paper. So there may be more literature in your loo than your reading book. All unused packaging material and cardboard is recycled and we also make sure that our team recycle their drinks bottles, cans, lunch packaging and paper too.

Come and see for yourself...

We are not just a barnful of books; though our stacks are pretty awe inspiring! We have a pretty(ish) face too! You can visit our bricks and mortar shop in the heart of Somerset, just outside Bristol and Bath.

  • There are rows upon rows of used books all at £1.
  • The Full Stop Café serves delicious home made food, sourced locally.
  • Darwin Rare Books is a handpicked selection of rare and collectible, old, hard to find or just fascinating and beautiful books out on display and waiting for you.
  • We are child and wheelchair friendly too with plenty of free parking space.
